General Rules - Safety First

Competitor and spectator safety is the overriding priority at all of our events. Your machine and your personal safety equipment will be safety inspected before you compete for the first time.

Your snowmobile must be equipped with the following:

  • A tether cord kill switch, as well as, a thumb activated shut off switch. The switch must be located on the right hand side of your handlebars.
  • Head lights and tail lights must be operational and must be covered with clear tape.
  • The Ski tips or loops on your skis must be a minimum of 1" inch in diameter or width.
  • Ski loops must loop around and attach under the front Ski tip.
  • Your sled must also be equipped with an extended rear snow flap, that touches the ground when the racer is on the sled. Snow flaps may be purchased from the CSRA concession trailer at each race site.
  • Warm up stands must be of solid construction and must be designed to contain debris that may be thrown off the snowmobile track during warm up procedure. Warm up stands must have a complete enclosure panel with side deflectors.

  • Racers must wear a Snell 2000 or newer approved Full coverage helmet with eye protection.
  • 50% of your helmet must be bright orange in colour. Helmets must have the original Snell 2000 or newer approved label on it to pass safety inspection.
  • You will also need gloves, good quality boots, hockey type shin and knee pads.
  • All racers are required to wear an approved upper body vest that provides full chest and back protection. Motocross Vests are not legal for Snowcross racing. Approved vests are available from Tekrider . Phone: 705-286-4462.
  • A limited supply of approved helmets, and vests will be available to purchase or rent at each event from the on site CSRA concession trailer.

Studs

You are permitted to use a maximum of (96) studs in your track at Snowcross races. The studs and backer plates must be located in the centre area between the slide rails. Studs and backer plates are not permitted under the slide rails or on the outside ribs of the track. Studs must be located no more than 1.25" inches directly behind a track lug. The stud must be located a minimum of 4.25 inches from the edge of the track measured parallel to the surface of the track and measured from the track edge to the outside edge of the stud shaft. Track studs must not be more than 3/8" taller than the track lug located directly in front of the stud. Studs must be commercially available, trail type studs with a minimum 60% angled tip. Studs and backing plates can not be sharpened or modified at any time.

Ski Runners

Carbide runners must be commercially available 60% or 90% trail type carbides with a host bar that has rounded edges. Maximum carbide cutting edge insert length is 10" inches. Carbides can not be sharpened at any time. Oval or Ice racing carbides are not permitted. The minimum width for a carbide runner is 3/8"inch. Maximum width 5/8" inch. The maximum height for the carbide runner from the bottom of the ski is a maximum of 1/8" higher than the width of the carbide runner. Not to exceed 5/8" inch.

Example #1

If your carbide runner is 3/8" inch wide, the maximum total height for your carbide runner including carbide insert is ½" inch from the bottom of the ski surface.

Example #2

If your carbide runner is ½" inch wide, the maximum total height for your carbide runner including carbide insert is 5/8"inch from the bottom of the ski surface.

International Snowmobile Racing (ISR) Rules

These rules are general racing guidelines. When you purchase your membership you will receive a copy of detailed I.S.R. rules. The CSRA operates under I.S.R. rules and guidelines unless otherwise written in one of our CSRA newsletters.

Competitors can not modify or remove or change any part of your snowmobile in any Stock racing classes unless it is written or approved in the International Snowmobile Racing (ISR) rule book or in a CSRA newsletter. (Racers are responsible to know all ISR General rules and ISR Snowcross rules).

Competitor Racing Numbers

  • All racers must use 6" or 7 " black racing numbers on white back grounds. (All classes)
  • Racer numbers must be located on both sides of the snowmobile and must not be obstructed while you are racing.

Notes

  • Current members will have last years race numbers reserved until September 30, 2007. After September 30, race numbers will be allocated on a first come first serve basis.
  • Race number #1 is reserved for the previous CSRA National Champion.
  • Two digit numbers are reserved for Pros and Semi-Pros only. All other new racers must choose a three digit number between 100 - 999.
